The increasing danger of America's roads and highways

Kentucky readers know that with technological improvements and increased safety measures, cars and other vehicles could be safer than ever before. However, while there have been many significant improvements, there are still serious issues threatening the safety and well-being of all motorists.

You may know that over the last few decades, car accident statistics have improved. However, over the past few years alone, this trend has reversed, and the number of serious and fatal accidents is increasing. There are several reasons for this, and understanding the cause of many car accidents can be helpful in preventing accidents in the future. Victims of any accident caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another person have the right to seek financial compensation for their losses, as well as their pain and suffering.

What is to blame?

Experts who study car accident statistics find the increase in the number of accidents involving pedestrians to be particularly troubling. In 2016, there were approximately 6,000 pedestrian deaths. This represents an almost 50 percent increase in these types of accidents since 2009.

Many factors could contribute to the increase in incidents causing harm to pedestrians, as well as other types of accidents. You may consider the following:

  • The increase in accident fatalities coincides with the rampant and widespread increase in smartphone use.
  • Smartphones could also make for distracted pedestrians, which leads to a higher chance for an accident.
  • Alcohol is a known factor in many accidents, particularly pedestrian accidents.

Regardless of the reasons for your accident, you may find it beneficial to seek advice regarding the possibility of a civil claim. Car accident victims have the right to hold liable parties accountable for their actions and seek rightful recovery of their accident losses. Whether you are an injured passenger, driver or pedestrian, you have the right to know your legal options.

Pursuing what you deserve

Many car accident victims are unaware of their rights; let alone how to recover their losses after an accident. Even if you are unsure that you could have a case, you will find it helpful to seek a complete evaluation of your situation in order to understand how you can protect your rights.

It is beneficial to take quick action to protect your legal and financial interests after an accident. You can fight back and pursue the recovery you deserve, and you do not have to wait to get started.
