1 killed, 1 injured in crash involving car, transportation buses

The spring in Kentucky is busy and bustling with traffic. The Oaks, Derby and other events fill calendars, making it an important time for the state. Unfortunately, with added traffic and tourists in town, there's a growing risk of accidents and injuries.

Everyone has to be safer when tourists are in town and the traffic becomes heavy. Those who aren't familiar with the roads may make mistakes, and it's only the vigilance of others that will prevent those mistakes from causing serious injuries or fatalities. When people aren't able to stop or get out of the way to prevent an accident, deaths and injuries are probable.

That's what happened recently, according to the Shively Police Department, when a pedestrian was killed in traffic accident near 7th street. The mid-morning accident occurred when a blue vehicle heading north approached several vehicles heading south on 7th Street. A Miller Transportation bus carrying passengers who were traveling to the Kentucky Oaks had to swerve out of the way to avoid a crash with the car.

The blue vehicle went on to strike a utility pole, a small coach and two other vehicles. The driver had to be extricated and transported to the hospital following the collision. It's not clear if the driver had crossed a line or failed to stop at a light, but after avoiding the blue vehicle, the bus hit a second vehicle and the pedestrian who was nearby on the sidewalk. The accident required a long investigation, shutting down the roads for several hours.

This crash may have been preventable, like many others. If you're hurt in a crash, remember that you can file a claim against the person responsible.
